Every year, a cohort of US startups crosses the $10 million ARR threshold and enters a new tier of operational complexity. The tools that served them at $500,000 ARR begin to show their limits. The infrastructure choices made in the first six months of the company's life — often under time pressure and with incomplete information — either prove durable or become the source of painful, expensive migrations.

To help founders and technical leaders make better decisions earlier, SolStack has compiled benchmark data on the software combinations, cloud providers, and development tools most commonly found in the stacks of high-growth US startups reaching this milestone in 2025. The findings are organized by vertical and accompanied by cost comparisons and adaptable templates.

Methodology and Scope

This analysis draws on publicly available data from sources including StackShare, G2 market reports, and Crunchbase company profiles, supplemented by direct conversations with founders and CTOs at companies that crossed the $10 million ARR mark in 2024 or early 2025. The sample is weighted toward US-headquartered companies in three primary verticals: B2B SaaS, e-commerce enablement, and fintech. Company sizes range from 15 to 120 employees.


B2B SaaS: The Consensus Stack

Among B2B SaaS companies in the $10M–$25M ARR range, a recognizable consensus stack has emerged. It is not universal — outliers exist at every level — but the following combination appears with remarkable frequency.

Cloud Infrastructure: AWS remains the dominant cloud provider in this segment, with approximately 61% of surveyed companies running primarily on AWS. Google Cloud accounts for roughly 24%, while Microsoft Azure holds the remainder. Multi-cloud configurations are relatively rare at this revenue stage, with most teams citing operational complexity as a deterrent.

Backend: Node.js and Python continue to dominate backend development, with Go gaining meaningful traction among teams that have scaled beyond 50 engineers. PostgreSQL is the near-universal choice for relational data storage, often supplemented by Redis for caching.

Frontend: React remains the clear leader for web application interfaces. Next.js, built atop React, has become the default choice for teams that need server-side rendering without building a custom solution.

Payments: Stripe is essentially ubiquitous in this segment. Among companies with more complex billing requirements — usage-based pricing, multi-currency support — Stripe Billing is frequently paired with Chargebee or Maxio for subscription lifecycle management.

Customer Success and CRM: HubSpot dominates at the lower end of this revenue range, with Salesforce becoming the more common choice as companies approach and exceed $20M ARR. Intercom retains strong adoption as a combined support and lifecycle messaging platform.

E-Commerce Enablement: Speed and Composability

Startups building in the e-commerce enablement space — tools and platforms that serve direct-to-consumer brands, marketplaces, or logistics operators — show a notably different stack profile, shaped by the performance demands and integration requirements of commerce infrastructure.

Storefront and Commerce Engine: Shopify and its ecosystem remain central to this vertical, though companies building infrastructure for enterprise merchants increasingly layer custom solutions on top of Shopify's API or build on headless commerce frameworks such as Medusa or Commerce Layer.

Cloud and CDN: Vercel has emerged as a preferred deployment platform for frontend-heavy e-commerce applications, valued for its edge network performance and tight Next.js integration. AWS and Google Cloud handle backend processing and data workloads.

Data and Analytics: Segment is the most commonly cited customer data platform in this vertical, often feeding into a data warehouse built on Snowflake or BigQuery. Looker and Metabase serve the reporting and business intelligence layer.

Logistics and Fulfillment APIs: EasyPost and ShipBob's API layer appear frequently among companies managing shipping logic programmatically.

Fintech: Compliance-Constrained, API-Dependent

Fintech startups operating in the United States face a uniquely constrained stack environment. Regulatory requirements — KYC, AML, SOC 2, PCI-DSS — shape infrastructure decisions in ways that have no equivalent in other verticals. The result is a stack that is often more expensive and more complex than comparable B2B SaaS or e-commerce operations at the same revenue stage.

Banking and Payments Infrastructure: Plaid remains the dominant open banking connectivity layer, though Unit and Synapse (where still operational) serve companies building embedded banking products. Stripe and Adyen split the payments processing market, with Adyen more common among companies processing higher transaction volumes.

Identity and Compliance: Persona and Alloy are the most frequently cited KYC and identity verification platforms. For AML monitoring, Unit21 and Sardine have gained significant adoption among Series A and Series B fintech companies.

Cloud: AWS dominates in fintech, in part due to its compliance certifications and the depth of its security tooling. GovCloud configurations appear among companies serving regulated institutional clients.

Cross-Vertical Trends Worth Noting

Several patterns emerge consistently across all three verticals.

Linear has displaced Jira as the preferred project management and issue tracking tool among engineering teams at companies in the $10M–$30M ARR range. Its speed and developer-centric UX are frequently cited as the primary reasons.

Notion has become the default internal knowledge base, often replacing Confluence. Among companies that have not yet adopted Notion, Confluence retention tends to correlate with legacy engineering culture rather than active preference.

Datadog leads observability, with New Relic and Grafana Cloud serving as cost-conscious alternatives. Companies that have crossed $15M ARR rarely operate without a dedicated observability platform.

OpenAI's API is now a standard component of the development stack across all three verticals, appearing in product features, internal tooling, and customer support automation alike.
